While we have both travelled to Scotland before for day trips, in 2016 we are spending three weeks travelling up to, and within, Scotland - this is the story of our trip.

We're Off
Today we begin our trip with a gentle drive through the eastern part of the middle of Wales and into Shropshire and Cheshire before travelling through the North West of England to the village of Langho in the Ribble Valley.
The route will be something like this:
Note the visit to Sainsbury's is to fill the car with petrol, rather than a scenic visit to the old Brown Lenox Chainworks which used to stand here.
Our next stop is a scenic visit. It is 6 years since we last visited Pontsticill Reservoir so before heading for the glens and lochs of Scotland, we make a stop in a cwm and lake (all be it man-made) in Wales. The route from Pontsticill will take us through Talybont-on-Usk and then on to Llandrindod Wells, where I lived for four years in the 80's.
From Llandod we will travel up the A483 to Chester then via the M56, M62, M6 and A59 to Northcote where we are sleeping and eating tonight.

Martin has requested photos of menus as well as food. Not demanding, is he đ.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a perfectly reasonable request - at the Northcote they give you a copy of the menu after the meal - so that should be easy. With the tasting/dĂ©gustation menus we will be going for there may not always be a menu, but we will try our best ☺
DeleteSounds fab Haydn, I look forward to the tales and the tastes vicariously enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThis could be a caravan holiday, Northcote is Nigel??? - a big Yorkshire man who was a judge on the Great British Menu. His protégé a young blond female chef is good too. Lisa??? Not good remembering names!
Nigel Howarth and Lisa Allen and both of them have won Great British Menu, as well as Nigel judging it.
DeleteBut I think he is a Lancastrian not a Yorkshire man.
